About me

My name is Daphne Lucker (1994, Groningen, The Netherlands) and I am an Amsterdam based director and photographer.

Through film and photography, I can capture raw emotions that often remain unspoken, especially around themes such as loss, family dynamics, and identity. I aim to create a space where people can see themselves, their struggles, and their emotions reflected and acknowledged.

My work has a poetic, theatrical and physical emphasis. The stories I choose to tell often take place within the family circle where I search for visually interesting ways to externalize the inner struggles of my characters.

In 2018, I graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy with the short dance film SISTERS, which went on to travel internationally and win numerous awards. I then directed my first television film, Echo, for the series My Street, produced by NTR, BNNVARA, and VPRO.

I just finished a new dancefilm called ‘Her Body’ and and my first feature film ‘VLAM’.

From 2018 to 2020, I studied at the Academy for Photography in Amsterdam, where I refined my visual style as a photographer. I frequently contributed photos to the Dutch newspaper Het Parool. Working as a photojournalist allows me a unique glimpse into the lives of others—insights that continue to inspire my work as a filmmaker.
